It is mandatory for blood banks across the state to inform the SBTC upon the collection of blood after organising blood donation camps or in blood banks.
Maharashtra's State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) has circulated an order to blood banks across the state to give out daily reports of blood collections during the blood donation camps.
According to the SBTC authority, in order to keep a record of blood units collected by each blood banks, they have written to blood banks across the state to give them a daily report on the collection of blood.
It is mandatory for blood banks across the state to inform the SBTC upon the collection of blood after organising blood donation camps or in blood banks.
"In order to know how much blood units have been collected by the blood banks and usage of the collected blood, we have sent the circular. The blood banks will have to inform in writing when and where they will be organising the blood donation camps, for how many days and how much blood units has collected per day, including the blood groups," said authority from SBTC.
They will also have to include the name of the organisers organising the camps and expected collection units.
The circular was sent in the first week of January and few of the blood banks across the city have started implementing the order.
There are around 333 blood banks out of which 229 blood banks are run by the charitable trust and 75 of them are government run. Most of the time, blood donation camps are organised, but the information does not reach SBTC.
Besides this, recently, SBTC had ordered to display the name of the regular 'universal donor' and their contact details in various blood banks in the state. According to the authority, it is aimed to make the blood available in shorter time. Citizens and blood banks can quickly refer the list when in need of blood.
